South Beach Dining: Puerto Sagua

In honor of my sister Beth's upcoming trip to South Beach for Spring Break, I've decided to share some discoveries we made in South Beach when we were in Miami for our honeymoon.

South Beach is full of hip, pricey restaurants, but there are several Cuban restaurants in the area that serve up tasty Cubanos and Ropa Veja at reasonable prices. Our favorite in the South Beach area was Puerto Sagua. The food was so delicious at Puerto Sagua that we ate there twice during a fairly short visit to South Beach. Dan's favorite dish was the ropa veja, which is basically a stewed skirt steak that is cooked until it's ridiculously tender and flavorful. Of course, all the dishes come with tasty beans and rice, but I couldn't possibly have a meal and neglect to have plaintains if they are available. The shrimp in garlic sauce were amazing as well -- perfectly cooked shrimp were served in a rich sauce of garlic, onions and tomatoes. It's also open until 2 a.m., which makes it a popular place to grab something delicious after a night of partying.
